# See where people click and scroll

See where people click on each page and how far down they scroll, on desktop, tablet and mobile: who clicks where, rage clicks, the most clicked elements, and a PNG to download.

A heatmap shows where people click on a page, how far down they scroll, who clicks where (the **confetti** map) and how often each element is clicked (the **overlay**), drawn over a picture of the page, separately for desktop, tablet and mobile. Heatmaps are **on** for every website from the start, and they don't count as recordings.

## Where to find them

Clicks and scrolling are collected from a website's first visits; open **Heatmaps** in the website's sidebar to see them. **Heatmaps** has a switch of its own in Settings → Recordings, so you can turn it off without turning off session recordings.

## Read a heatmap

Pick a device (**Desktop** 1024 pixels wide or more, **Tablet** 768 to 1023, **Mobile** narrower), then a page: the busiest pages of the period are listed first. The dashboard's date range applies.

- **Clicks**: every click, drawn where it landed on the element clicked. Hover a spot for the element, its clicks and their share of the page's, and its **rage clicks** (three quick clicks in the same spot), a sign that something didn't respond.
- **Scroll depth**: the page shaded by how many views reached each 5% of its height, with lines where 75%, 50% and 25% of views were left (each with the number of views behind it) and the **average fold**: how far down the first screen reached on that device.
- **Confetti**: every click as a dot, coloured by something about the visitor: referrer, source, channel, new or returning, country, browser, operating system, language, window width, entry page, day of the week, time of day, or a UTM. Pick it in the key over the page; the busiest eight values get a colour of their own and the rest are **Other**. Untick a value to hide its dots, and hover a dot for its element and value. The latest 5,000 clicks of the period are drawn.
- **Overlay**: a marker on each clicked element, coloured from blue (fewest clicks) to red (most). Click one for the element's clicks, their share of the page's, its rage clicks, and a breakdown of those clicks by referrer, country, new vs returning, browser, UTM and more. On a busy page the 40 most clicked elements are marked. An element no longer on the page has its marker where its clicks were.
- **List**: every clicked element in a table over the page, the most clicked first, with what it says, its type (link, button, image, form, text), its clicks, their share of the page's and its rage clicks; the elements still on the page, those gone from it, or both. Click a row to see the element on the overlay. The list downloads as a CSV file.

The **download** button in the heatmap's header saves what you see as a PNG of the whole page at its own size: the clicks, scroll depth, confetti or overlay drawn over it, with the average fold line. Pictures from another website that doesn't allow them to be copied are left out of it.

## The page's picture

The picture under the clicks is a snapshot of the page, taken from a real visit at most once a day for each page and device. Until a page has one, the heatmap says **No snapshot of this page on desktop yet** (or tablet, or mobile): one is taken on its next visit from that device. Snapshots follow the same rules as recordings: typed text is hidden, and so is all text with **All text**; `supr-mask`, `supr-block`, **Never captured** and **Pages never recorded** apply too (see [Session recordings](https://supranalytics.app/docs/session-recordings.md)).

## Limits

- Heatmap clicks, scroll depth and snapshots are kept for **60 days**, then removed automatically.
- Nothing is collected for bots, excluded visits, in attack mode, at the monthly event limit or while the plan has lapsed.
- Everyone on the website's team can see heatmaps; they're never on a [public dashboard](https://supranalytics.app/docs/public-dashboards.md) or in the All websites view.
