One inbox

Every website's chats in one list.

The Inbox holds the conversations from each website's chat bubble. Open it on one website, or on All websites to answer them all from one list, each row marked with its website.

Views that keep the list short.

The Inbox opens on Open. Resolve a conversation when it's done and it leaves that view; the visitor's next message brings it back.

Open
Conversations nobody has resolved yet.
Unread
Open conversations with messages nobody has read, or that you marked unread to come back to.
Resolved
Everything that's done, to look back on.
Starred
The conversations you starred from their menu.
Blocked
Visitors you blocked, kept out of every other view. The tab appears once someone is blocked.
All
Every conversation except blocked visitors'.

What needs you comes first.

  • Pinned conversations stay at the top, then unread ones, then the newest
  • A conversation where the visitor wrote last is marked as waiting, with how long ago they wrote
  • Above the list: open conversations, how many are waiting on you and since when, how many of these visitors are on the website now, and how many are resolved
  • Each row shows whether the visitor is online, their last message and how many messages are unread
  • Each conversation keeps a log: when it started, the first reply and how long it took, and every time it was resolved or reopened

Sorted your way, and heard from anywhere.

Every conversation has a menu (its arrow, or a right-click) to resolve it, pin it, star it, mark it unread or mute it for 8 hours, a week or for good. Pins, stars, unread marks and mutes are yours alone: nobody else's Inbox changes. Wherever you are in the dashboard, the number of unread messages is on the sidebar's Chat link and in the browser tab's title, and outside the Inbox a new message pops up with a Reply button.

A muted conversation makes no pop-ups or sounds and stays out of the unread count until the mute ends.

Set it up.

  1. Turn on live chat

In each website's Settings → Chat. The bubble appears on its pages with no extra code.

  2. Open the Inbox

For one website, or on All websites for every website with chat on.

  3. Work through Open

Reply, then resolve. A new message from the visitor reopens the conversation.

How it works, in detail.

The docs page “Chat with your website visitors” goes through it step by step.

How it works

Limits worth knowing

  • The list loads each website's 100 most recent conversations, plus any you pinned; message search reaches the older ones
  • Quick replies, page alerts and saved messages are each website's own, so they're managed from that website's Inbox, not from All websites
  • Only the website's owner can delete a conversation, and it can't be undone

Questions, answered.

Can I answer chats from several websites in one place?

Yes. The Inbox on All websites lists the conversations of every website with live chat on, together and in one order, each marked with its website. A reply goes out from that conversation's own website.

What happens when I resolve a conversation?

It moves from Open to Resolved and counts as read. If the visitor writes again, it reopens by itself.

Do pins and mutes affect the rest of my team?

No. Pinning, starring, marking unread and muting are kept per person. Resolving, reading and blocking are shared.

How do I know a new message arrived when I'm not on the Inbox?

The unread count shows on the sidebar's Chat link and in the tab's title, and a pop-up with the message and a Reply button appears on other pages. You can also turn on a sound for chat messages in browser alerts.

Is there a limit on conversations?

No. Every plan includes unlimited conversations and messages, and they're kept while your account exists, until you delete them. See live chat for the rest of what it does.

See it on your own website.
