Google Search Console

See what people searched on Google before they arrived.

Google sends the visit but not the search. Connect Search Console and each website gets a page with the queries and pages people found you through, with their clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position.

The searches behind your Google traffic.

A visit from Google arrives with Google as its source and no query. Search Console has the queries, so SuprAnalytics reads them from there and shows them for the dates you pick.

Clicks and impressions
The period's totals with the change from the period before, and a chart of both by day: clicks as bars, impressions as a line.
CTR and position
Click-through rate, and average position weighted by impressions, as Google weights it. Lower is better, and the change is coloured that way.
Top 200 queries
The searches that showed your website, most clicks first, each with its impressions, CTR and position. Search the list or sort it by any column.
Top 200 pages
The pages Google showed, with the same four figures, each linking to the page.

How the data comes in.

  • The first sync brings the last 90 days
  • New days come in every few hours, when you open the page, or with Sync now
  • Google revises its newest days, so the last 4 are fetched again at each sync
  • Search Console is daily and about two days behind: Now, Today, Yesterday and the last 24 hours show the last 7 days instead
  • Totals include queries Google keeps private, so they can be higher than the sum of the queries listed

Read-only, and yours to remove.

SuprAnalytics asks Google only to read Search Console data and can't change anything in your Google account. The access token is stored encrypted and never shown. Disconnect hands it back to Google and deletes the Search Console data kept for the website.

Set it up.

  1. Open Search Console

It's in the website's sidebar. Only the website's owner can connect it.

  2. Connect your Google account

Click Connect Google Search Console, sign in with the Google account that has the website in Search Console and allow read-only access.

  3. Check the property

A domain property (sc-domain:example.com) or a URL-prefix property for your domain is picked for you. If none matches exactly, choose one from the account's list.

How it works, in detail.

The docs page “Google Search Console” goes through it step by step.

How it works

Limits worth knowing

  • Figures are daily and about two days behind, so there is nothing for today yet
  • The dashboard's filters don't apply to the Search Console page, only its dates
  • The lists stop at the top 200 queries and the top 200 pages of the period
  • Queries are Google's totals; they aren't linked to single visitors, goals or payments
  • Not shown on public dashboards or in the All websites view

Questions, answered.

Why can't I see Google search keywords in my analytics?

Google doesn't send the search query with a visit, so the visit arrives with Google as its source and nothing more. Search Console has the queries, and connecting it brings them in.

Can SuprAnalytics change anything in my Search Console?

No. It asks only for read-only access to Search Console data, and the access token is stored encrypted.

How far back does the data go?

The first sync brings the last 90 days. New days are added after that, and the data is kept for as long as your plan keeps analytics.

Why are today's numbers missing?

Search Console reports by day and runs about two days behind. For periods shorter than a day, and for yesterday, the page shows the last 7 days instead.

Which Search Console property is used?

A domain property or a URL-prefix property matching the website's domain is picked by itself. If none matches exactly, you choose one, and the owner can change it later.

What happens when I disconnect?

The access token is handed back to Google and the Search Console data kept for the website is deleted. Your other analytics stay as they are.
